What To Do If Bitten By A Dog in Ashtabula County

When a dog bites someone in Ashtabula County, it must be reported to the Ashtabula County Health Department within 24 hours for further action and investigation.

Reporting a dog bite is important so Ashtabula County Health Department can locate the dog and implement quarantine. A healthy dog that bites or otherwise exposes a person should be quarantined for a specific period of time from the date of the exposure. The quarantine period is based on the length of time that the rabies virus may be excreted in the saliva prior to the onset of rabies symptoms.
