Slater and Zurz Dog Bite Prevention Program for Akron Ohio KidsNational Dog Bite Prevention Week® takes place every April. The purpose of this annual event is to increase education and awareness for preventing dog bites. This year, the event ran from April 8th through 14th.

In 2015, Akron, Ohio attorney Jim Slater developed a Dog Bite Prevention Program specifically for children. The program consists of a fun animated video with a memorable musical jingle and colorfully illustrated storybook. Both pieces of the program present common, real-life situations where children encounter a strange dog and explain what they should do to prevent the dog from attacking and biting.

On April 2, 2018, Mr. Slater stopped by King Elementary School in Akron where he spoke to nearly 100 students about dog bite prevention, showed them his animated video and delivered pizzas for the students to enjoy.

“With the school year coming to an end and summer vacation about to begin, children will be spending more time outside exposed to dogs”, said Attorney Jim Slater. “I’ve seen way too many children become victims of dog bites that leave scars both physically and emotionally. It’s important to give kids the educational tools they need to protect themselves. Our dog bite prevention program and National Dog Bite Prevention Week® are opportunities to do this and I am grateful to King Elementary School for their enthusiastic participation.”
