What To Do If Bitten By A Dog in Fulton County

When a dog bites someone in Fulton County, it must be reported to the Fulton County Health Department within 24 hours for further action and investigation.

Reporting a dog bite is important so the Fulton County Health Department can locate the dog and implement quarantine. A healthy dog that bites or otherwise exposes a person should be quarantined for a specific period of time from the date of the exposure. The quarantine period is based on the length of time that the rabies virus may be excreted in the saliva prior to the onset of rabies symptoms.

If the dog shows no clinical signs of rabies during the quarantine period, it should be examined by a licensed veterinarian, declared free from rabies and properly vaccinated. If any signs of illness occur during quarantine, it should be reported to the Fulton County Health Department and the dog examined by a veterinarian immediately.
